Province of Divine Providence
Southern India
The Province of Divine Providence, Southern India was erected on 25th March 1997 with 17 Convents and 179 Sisters comprising of 3 States, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Sr. Mildred Thambuswamy was the First Provincial Superior of this infant Province nominated by Mother Franceschina Milanesio Superior General and her council
Sr. Mildred with her indomitable spirit and able leadership for 12 years built the province steadily and squarely with the support of her Council, in fidelity to the Charism and Mission of our Congregation.

Sr. Theresa Cherian and the Council have effected tremendous change in the growth and development of the Province during this Sessenium (2015-2021). As an educationist Sr. Theresa Cherian encouraged the Sisters to venture into new vitas of qualitative education. Core committee was set up and educational survey was conducted periodically, upgraded St.Mary’s Matricilation and St.Ann’s matriculation into higher secondary schools. Sr. Theresa succeeded to have a Doctor sister fully qualified for our province. Efforts were made to register the existing dispensaries of the Province according to Government norms. She solemnly celebrated all the religious functions and the 150th anniversary of our fruitful years in Indian soil. You arranged annual retreats and on-going formation programmes with good resource persons to enrich our spirituality.
Sr. Theresa took much effort to build a beautiful Home for the elderly sisters at Nileshwar and initiated our mission and educative ministry at Mangalapuram and Trichambaram and healing ministry at our new convent at Thiruvadisulam.
On 3rd June 2018, the three Indian Provinces was re-organized into Five Provinces and the Province of Divine Providence was demarcated with the territorial division of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, comprising 21 Communities and 149 Sisters.
On 5th June 2022 Sr.Nambikai Kithari took charge as the Fourth Provincial Superior for the growing province with 155 Sisters, 24 Communities and 6 Missionaries.

In 2009 June, Sr. Marietta D’ Mello the Second Provincial Superior of the Province strengthened the Spiritual and Apostolic life of the Province for Six years through her tireless Animation and able Administration.
Sr. Marietta was indeed cut out to be a Superior in every way, especially in being model to the community and the sisters in the fervent observance of the least rule and in following the vow of obedience. She was a great lover of regularity and religious observances. She was very particular about the religious spirit and decorum.
At the request of the Bishop of Eluru Diocese, Sr. Marietta ventured to send the sisters to take up the challenging mission to offer their services to the old and the aged poor people at Allipalli, Andhra Pradesh.
Sr. Marietta solemnly celebrated the 175th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Institute of the Sisters of St Ann 1834-2009. The sisters set up special projects of mercy to commemorate this great Jubilee event. Sister took great efforts to arrange good retreats and seminars for the sisters.
She introduced discipline in financial planning and provided financial stability to the province.
A seminar on “Lineamenta” was conducted by the Provincial and the council for all the superiors, Formators and Headmistress of the Province. She went through arduous task of celebrating the 3rd Provincial Chapter in two sessions effectively.
She has a very solid and childlike devotion to our Blessed Mother Mary and she lovingly spread the devotion to her wherever she went.
She is generous and hospitable towards the priests, religious and the guests. They remain grateful for her goodness. She is also compassionate towards the poor
In 2015 January, Sr. Theresa Cherian the Third Provincial Superior of the P r o v i n c e shouldered the responsibilities of the Province, consisting of 31 Communities and 249 Sisters for three years.

Establishments from 1997-2009 May
Andhra Pradesh
Eluru : St.Ann’s Novitiate,Degree campus – Administration Block, Open Stage, Canteen, Asha Kiranam building, Theresa’s Convent- English Medium Primary School was constructed.
Mangalapalam: School Buildings , dining Hall and a Boarding Home
Kerala
Manasery : ½ Acre of land purchased and a convent was constructed in the name ‘Marialaya’ Kanhangad: Little flower high school was upgraded into Higher Secondary and a new Higher Secondary Block was constructed. Later additional class rooms were constructed for Primary and High school.
Nileshwar: Divine Providence High school was constructed
Ayoor: St.Ann’s Primary school was upgraded into CBSE
Kannanallore: Constructed St. Ann’s English medium Middle School.
Vlanthankara: A new convent was started in the Diocese of Neyantingara.
Tamil Nadu
T.M. Palayam, St.Ann’s Matriculation School was started in 1998 with L.K.G.. and new convent building came into existence
Chengalpattu: In 1998 A primary school block with 12 class rooms and a Higher secondary school building with 12 class rooms were constructed. In 2007 B.Ed college of Education and D.T.ED –Diploma in teacher Education were started
Melamiyur : St. Ann’s Animation centre in the year2000, St.Ann’s Provincialate in 2004 , Madonna Villa in 2008 was constructed. St.Ann’s Matriculation school was started in 2006,
Mangadu: In 2004 St.Ann’s Juniorate was constructed.
Mambakkam: The dilapidated convent building was demolished and was built in 2007.
Kombadimadurai: In 1999 ‘Maria Anjali’ was constructed on the 1 acre of land donated by the diocese.
Adhanur : In 2002 a convent and a dispensary was constructed to offer to the medical service.
Adyar: In 2003 Jeevadhanam- Home for the street children, unwed mothers, slum dwellers and platform dwellers, poverty stricken etc… are taken in this Home and offered education shelter and medicare.
Melmidalam: After Tsunami 2004, a Convent was built in the diocese of Kottar at Melmidalam .
